Looking perky with that hat
Hoooly crap! Small world! That’s my jousting coach aka Radar Goddard, head of the Society of Tilt and Lance Cavalry. I think this is right after she was knighted.
favourite Game of Thrones character : Brienne of Tarth
Holy shit! Brienne is ALL KINDS OF AWESOME. If I was like a million feet tall, I would cosplay the shit out of this! Alas, I’ll have to stick to short crusty dudes.
Speaking of costumes, there’s been productivity. Take a squint here for more infos: http://sweet-threads.blogspot.ca/
I’ve gotten a few requests to share more photos of my various outfits so let’s start with some re-enactment stuff.

This is at the annual multi-period event at our local museum. My friend Sarah is rocking her Viking gear on the right and I’m on the left with my 1500s German jaeger kit (ignore the saex hanging from my belt - couldn’t find my messer that morning and I couldn’t leave the house un-knifed)

Doing it Roman style with the now defunct Legio XXI Rapax at the same event but many years previous. I’m the vexillifer - just look for the short, stickly person with the standard. Funny - wearing this stuff, NO ONE expects you to be a girl. When our centurion was giving the crowd the low-down on the Roman army and the role of the vexillifer, he slipped up and said “she.” I could hear the collective gasp even with the helmet on.

1820s Metis Bourgeois Kit. It’s a bit early in period but I had it down to Fort Walsh for an 1860s event with the NWMP. It was Good Times.

You get involved in all sorts of strange things working at a museum, especially a military museum. We had a short film made last year about two brothers who joined up as bomber pilots - one came back and one didn’t. The one who did snuck into Soviet-occupied Germany to find his brother’s grave - true story! I got to be the bomb-aimer for the film - probably one of the coolest bits of ‘re-enactment’ I’ve done to date.

Aaaand the 1749 20th Regiment of Foot gear. No shots of this one in action, mostly due to the absolute dearth of F&I War re-enactment in western Canada. Based on this portrait of James Wolfe.
Hope you enjoy!
Holy god, so this is one of my favourite paintings ever BUT I only noticed tonight the extreme hotness of the crusty old dude on the horse in the background on the right. Knights are SO much better when they’re not cherub-faced nancy-boys (the fact that I’m pretty sure it’s Maximilian is beside the point*)
*It’s actually not but I could definitely seem him looking something like that in his later years, all armoured up and utterly bad-ass. Also, yo, bitch, wtf, I thought this blog was about sewing. Hhummpff.
EDIT: AWWW, tits. The high-res isn’t high-res at all. Here’s the link to the highest res I could find: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/La_rendici%C3%B3n_de_Granada.jpg
So funny story - I got a note this morning on dA from a book cover artist asking if she could use this image - http://ColonelLiamRoss.deviantart.com/art/The-Factor-s-Son-126899359?qo=0&catpath=gallery:colonelliamross:165690&order=0&offset=0 - for a cover she’s doing for a Regency-era e-book.
I’m completely and totally flattered but I do wonder if I shouldn’t tell her the chap in the photo (me) is actually a chick. Hmmm… dilemma.
In other news, it looks like my debut jousting tournament may be in Texas. In May. Which means! I need proper soft-clothes, like, now. So there has been sewing. Update and progress shots tomorrow night.
Lastly, I’ve been fighting an ongoing battle with the recurrent colic of my senior Arab gelding. It’s been ongoing for the last seven months or so but I do think it’s related to the fact that he doesn’t drink enough (“But I’m an Arab. Drinking is for chumps!” No, dude, seriously) He’s been getting daily doses of salt mixed with applesauce and that seemed to be helping over the last little while. He had another minor bout tonight but seemed much better right before I went to bed. It’s been real rollarcoaster with this but I think we’re narrowing it down. (Never mind the fact that he’s been looked at by five different vets…) Anyways, onwards ho! This is completely irrelevant to the sewing content on this blog but bugger it. It’s good to vent.
Happy New Years in the meantime! I’ve got all sorts of new news, so stay tuned!
So I’m finally getting my hands on moar photos from Pure Spec. Nothing ground-breakingly amazing but good shots nonetheless and, frankly, beggars can’t be choosers.

With cousin La Volpe right after the costume contest. I’ve got, like, three times more face than Christoph Waltz but hey, it’s the effort that counts, right? (Also, hilariousness: the Movember post got reblogged to a Christoph Waltz fan-tumblr. God, I hope he doesn’t read this stuff… D’:)

Chillin’ with my good bro Cil.

Aaaaand Marius Leitdorf from Warhammer on Sunday. Because Marius is freaking awesome and I’m pretty sure this is my favourite costume AND favourite character ever. (For further ranting and raving, see here) Marius is going to be pimped to the max for Expo 2012 - molded leather armour painted to look like the real deal, hours and hours of tooling, pimped out weapons scabbards, gold chains, jewels, and enormous eyebrows. I am stoked. I also need to get on that. Like, right after Christmas.
All of these photos were taken by the talented kintair. Many thanks!
